Sweet lord

May 05, 2008 in Uncategorized

Been a while hasn’t it people. I’d like to call this a triumphrant return, but we both know that’d be a lie now whouldn’t we. Yea we would.

Now I know, many of you want a conclusion to the story I posted, so many months ago. Well you’re fuck out of luck here guys. I’m going to be compiling the whole, plus extras and the last part into a full ’story’ as it were. I’m working on that along side my wedding speech for Jeff.

Reasons to read the new version. There will be more details, to the best of my memory at least added. Other then that, the only other reason to read it would be to get a deeper understanding of who I am, what I’ve become, what have you. But I digress, I’m simply trying to build it up to be something that will all let you down.

Without further ado, the real reason I came to post, I have to talk about IronMan, I need an outlet for my comic book nerdiness, and I’ve choosen the internet.

After reading a review posted on the Somethingawful forums, I did a little bit of further research into the movie, release dates of the obvious sequel, etc. You know the drill. I want to warn you guys now though, that there will be spoilers abound in here, I don’t care about you if you haven’t seen it. If you don’t want it ruined, leave now. The movie itself, great. Translated well from the comic (of what I know at least) to film. Updated accordingly and appeared to work. Casting, Robert Downy Jr. perfect, in fact all the cast was good. Tony Stark, a genius that drinks too much, parties like a young rich cat would. Gets blown up (in so many words) comes back changed, wants to help the people he’s hurt, blah blah. That said, the telling of him build his first suit, etc. Told amazing, puts you right into it, then pulls a flash back to show his life style leading up to his kidnapping. All worked beautifully. Even after he escapes, flows great until about halfway through making his new suit. It goes from “Oh yea, I can fly” to “Hey look, I’m done, let’s paint it pretty colors” Seemed rushed, could have used a little more detail, but then, also could have used so more action, the last maybe 30 mins maybe was him in the suit. He takes out some bad guys, tells his Army buddy (who turns out, Warmachine) that he’s in a suit, then all of a send, his Dad’s friend is stealing his heart-keeper-aliver and then, the end and we have our sequel line “I am IronMan” cue Black Sabbath. Not to seem like I’m trying to put down the movie, it was good, I liked it, can’t wait for the next one. Just seemed like a lot of build up for little pay off.

There is my rant, but to put the icing on the cake of the next one, is Sammy Jackson, in Tony’s house after the credits roll. He introduces himself as Nick Fury (which hey, I’m ok with that I suppose. They made the Kingpin black in Daredevil, worked great with Duncan-Clark. He also had the look for The Kingpin though. Large man, bald, works. Nick Fury is a war hero from the 40’s that’s taken chemicals to reduces his aging, has dark hair with greying sideburns. Sam Jackson is a loud black bald that slapped on an eyepatch. It will make all those Ultimate Avengers/Ironman people happy though. Guess I’m too old school for that stuff. But I digress.) head of S.H.I.E.L.D. talks about the Avengers. Which through my research I’ve found that, IronMan 2, will be out sometime in 2010, around April. Paired closely with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title) followed by The Avengers in 2011, using the established characters and introducing new ones obviously.

And there is my second rant. And I’m go for the night.

The Story of My Life: The Complication

Feb 28, 2008 in Uncategorized

Mid June or so I left, but it was to be short lived.

For the about week or so I was out, exams had finished, and prom was looming. I had made the decsion now to go on the basis of the sickness. Had some friends around, some good times, regular blood work. Generally getting used to how my life had changed. I visited the medical day unit at the VG site once and complained of my ears popping, the doctor then thought nothing of it. Throughout the day I found myself drinking alot of liquids, much more then usual, pissing every hour or so. With being weak from chemo, getting off the couch was a chore to begin with. At about 9:30 or so that night my Dad came home with some pizza and chocolate milk to treat us with and that’s when it all started to go wrong. After this I began to throw up. I decided it might be best in that case to head to bed for the night, I headed down to sleep and my mother got me some water to sleep with, as well as a bucket.

I was told later I downed almost 3 bottles of water before ultimatly we called an ambulence that trollied me to Dartmouth Emergancy for probably the worst night of my life. The incredible pain wasn’t even the biggest problem, pissing every 30 mins…nope…I think it would probably have to be that old coots on both sides of me, talked in their sleep, and complained when they were awake…ALL NIGHT. But I do have to thank my Mom for staying there all night, at least she could sleep through the coots…

In the morning I was transfered back to the VG, where I was told my pancreas was inflamed and I was promptly given demoral…which was just awesome. If I could spend days at a time whacked out on any drug, I’d pick demoral. It’s awesome.

This little complication, ended up putting me in the hospital, mere days before I was supposed to graduate…

The Story of My Life: Treatment

Feb 22, 2008 in Uncategorized

Welcome back folks, I love to keep you hanging. Without further adue, I’ll get into it.

I arrived at the VG, and was put into one of the special closed off room, due to it being the only one open. It was between 10-11:30 at night by this time. I only really know because I was able to click on the TV and watched Family Guy to fall asleep too.

The next morning was full of adventure, this is where alot of things get a little hazzy, most of the facts should be pretty acturate. Which started with the docs letting me know that the bone marrow sample the took the previous night wasn’t a complete sample and they would have to repeat the entire test….joy. Now, if you’ve never heard this particular test (and I doubt any of you have) it starts with some local anestic and a nice needle that DRILLS into your hip bone. Oh yea, good times with that one, it was then followed with a lumbar puncture. Or as people might also know, a spinal tap. The removed fluid to…check I guess…then injected some chemo right into the spine there. The rest of the day was tests, MRI’s Catscans and a proceedure to hook up my hickman line. A central line to a main vein to make all the I.V stuff alot easier. They do the tests, map out my treatment plan and give me the scoop and I get aquinated with the doctor to be following me case Dr. White.

Things seemed pretty on track from that point on, friends came into to visit (thanks guys) parents came every evening. Not a bad little vacation despite the cancer and all. Soon there after I was out of the hospital, for a while…

HA! Got ya hooked again. I’ll be back with part 3 soon.

The Story of My Life: Diagnosis

Feb 20, 2008 in Uncategorized

It’s been a few days, I know, but I have an awesome tear jerking story for you. It will be broken into a few different parts to pull out the suspense, cause I’m a great story teller like that. Without further adue…get some tissues.

Anyway, way way way way back, in the distant year of 2004. It was May, and I was in my last year of high school. There wasa growing concern by my friends, that I was infact, turning yellow. Joke to some…like my parents…but nevertheless. On May 21st I got a doctors appointment to look into my pigment and major lack of energy. Upon enter the small doctors office at the bottom of my street the nurse took one look at me and said “You look horrible.” I looked at her with my dead, dead eyes and could muster only enough energy to nod my head in aggrence. The doctor called my name and I headed to the office, sat down, he took one look at me and said “Go to emergancy.” So my mother and I left right away heading for the Cobequid (an emergancy serive center). To which I had to answer a string of questions and was well on my way to getting blood work done. Which 4 years ago. Took about 2 hours for a quick test now that takes about 30 mins. At this point I had lost all track of time. I know I left my high school at around 11:30 for lunch but at this point, I didn’t have a watch, things were moving very fast, I can’t really give you an acurate timeline. The only thing I remember after sitting in the small hospital room trying to reassure my parents, and myself that I was fine. I hear the doctor which I will forever refere to as “The Surfer Doc” on the fun with the Halifax Infirmary (H.I). Now, the large hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is split into two sites. The H.I and The Victoria General. They are both the same hospital though, called the Queen Elizibeth II Hospital (The QEII). I hear him say on the phone “I have a patient here, his blood work has come back a little funky, I’m going to transfer him over there.” And the fun wait for the ambulence began. You know, I’m always re-asured when I hear a doctor say he doesn’t know what’s wrong with his patient.

Anyway, I take my first ambulence ride over to the H.I and get a nice little privite emgency room, where I get pin pricked, blood drawn, and maybe my favorite, a bone marrow exam preformed by 2 residents with the head doctor (which luckily enough was an oncologist) over seeing. Needless to say that wasn’t exactly the most fun I’ve ever had. Again at this point, I don’t know what time it is, how long I’ve been running around to hospitals, nothing. Fianlly the doctor comes in to say it’s leukemia, and that I will be getting transfered as soon as possible to a section in the Victoria General site of The QEII.

End of part 1…suspensful huh? You have no idea if our protagonist is going to make it….

Sick day

Feb 18, 2008 in Uncategorized

Hello loved ones, well wishers, and people that may have found this website by accident. For any people that may have. Please stay, there is fun for everyone here.

Anyway, called in sick today to work, first time in over a year. I just couldn’t do it today. So I slept in, got up around 11, watch season 9 of the Simpsons and watched an afternoon full of Canada’s Worst Driver, which was surprisingly not a woman, I know. I was surprised too.

Anyway, the rest of the day was pretty uneventful, throat is still really sore and nose is stiff and running. The pounding headache is gone though, and I feel like at least 50% better. Other then that today, the little cat, the youngest…the one my sister gayly named Prince went in for his big operation this morning, and came home annoying, loud and full of pep. Pretty much how he was when he left. I swear I’m gonna murder that damn thing.

And now it’s drinking out of my water glass, fucking cat. Ugh. I hope he gets my cold….nah…that’s not nice.

I guess that’s all I’ve got today, Prison Break will be on soon, then Terminator. So until tomorrow. Goodbye lovelys.

Knight Rider

Feb 17, 2008 in Uncategorized

You know me, I normally restrict myself to a maxium of 1 post a day, but this is something that requires a bonus rant tonight.

I just finished watching the Knight Rider movie/premire. Bad…bad bad bad bad bad bad bad. Every action/suspense cliche you can think of was in this show. Not to mention bad dialog and just plan bad actors, the best actor in this thing was Haslehof (yeap, exactly) and he was only in it for about 5 mins at the end. To surprise, surprise convince the new guy to drive the new Knight Rider. I have to give them credit in only one avenue where instead of completely remaking and reinventing the series, they continue keeping in tact the old story, where the last car was called Knight Industries Two Thousand, this one is called Knight Industries Three Thousand. Not only showing that this is a new car. But also that the writters have no other creativity then to make a new Knight Rider show where the car will still be called K.I.T.T for short. Now, I fully believe that if in the 80’s the car was already called Knight Industries Three Thousand that this one would have been called Knight Industries Ten Thousand. Seems to me, they found the orignal writters of the show, showed them that computers can can fit on your lap, and asked them to write about the first thing that popped into their heads. Then after they had their internet connection pulled for looking at porn, they got right to work on reviving Knight Rider. I was orignally looking forward to it mostly because I read that Will Arnett would be the voice of K.I.T.T. I watched it…It wasn’t him…It was Val Kilmer…That guy killed Batman for 10 years. Fuck, they should have just had him play the new Micheal Knight guy thing. Ugh, disappointing. My only real compliments to the show is that the car looked pretty good, but it hardly makes up for the poor acting and worse story. I’m sure we won’t see this movie turn into a full series.

*sigh* I feel better now, think I’ll go to bed and try and sleep out this cold.

Oh sweet lord!

Feb 17, 2008 in Uncategorized

Hello dudes and dudettes, it’s me again, you friendly neighbourhood english major *snicker*. And I’m sick as balls. I’m hoping it’s cured up enough before tomorrow, I don’t want to be miserable at work…while I don’t want to be miserable cause I’m sick at work…

Well…I was out last night helping my parents friends with a locksmithing job, which was pretty damn fun. We hit the 24 hour Wal-Mart after looking for a new toilet seat (we’ve been renavating the bathroom upstairs, new toilet, it’s got a longer bowl). Couldn’t find anything, but I ended up picking up the Godzilla remake from around ‘98…The one that has Matthew Brodrick and stuff? Yea, the one like no one likes but me. I gave it a watch last night, and with fresh eyes 10 years in the future I have to say, I still enjoy the film. There are parts I don’t like but the general story is pretty strong. The computer graphics hold up pretty close still to todays standards. Nothing like the King Kong remake looked, but you know not bad. I think that had they done a better job at matching more of the story of the original from the 50’s it would have done better. They kept parts of it in keeping well with the older films, like setting it in Japan. Not making him some weird A-sexual reproducing monster lizard and not using so many cutise lines to make it more kid friendly it could have worked better as a monster movie. You can’t always get what you want though, unfortunate yes but I’m not screenplay writter.

Also, if you had read my last post (which I doubt) it was made from my backyard in the freezing damn cold. I’m happy to say I’m back inside and that the inernet in the house has been fixed, and after all the fighting and getting it fixed. Aliant sent us a nice little email saying there was a problem on their end and they’ve corrected it. It’s always the way huh? There’s not a problem until after they fix it. Fun.

Anyway, that’s it for today my friends.

Making it in under the wire *sigh*

Feb 12, 2008 in Uncategorized

Yea it’s me, but who gives a fuck. It’s been a horrible long day of crap and now I’m home watching Jericho and drinking. If you can can love me through my problem drinking, god love ya.

As you probably know, I haven’t much to say. Today was long and I’m spent. The only upside was coming home to watch Jericho, which so far, is awesome. It’s just about over, been a great episode.

Man…I had 2 papa burgers for supper today, they’ve been biting at me all night, I think soon, will be a good time to get rid of them. Punish the toilet for my day, that’ll learn him, the bastard. Just sitting there, eating everyones waste, sick bastard.

Isn’t this a fun night, aren’t you glad you came along with me on the amazing journey have crap and self pity? I know you’re happy to come along with me. It’s like a magical journey fun huh? Grab some snacks, your fruit-rollups and juice packs. It’s gonna be a long trip, and we might not ever come back. Like that 3 hour cruise that didn’t last long enough to think of the idea to build a raft.

It’s been shit, good night friends, loved ones, and well wishers.

DON’T PANIC!

Feb 11, 2008 in Uncategorized

Don’t believe the rumors folks, I’m not dead. I just got busy, then I got lazy. Then it was something in between…I don’t know what we’re going to call that.

But people noticed my absence, so I deem this little corner of the net an overwhelming success in mindless ranting! YEEEEA! Beer for everyone! Well….by people I mean person I suppose, which would have been Simon. Like a guiding spirit of my slacking, coming in to save the day and show me that people though may not nescessarily like my opinions, but generally feel entertained. Which may be all I need to do, shouldn’t be too hard really. I’m a funny fella…sometimes? A little? Yes?

The plan is to try and update everyday this week, I don’t know what I’m going to talk about yet, it may suck ass…I might not be the least bit entertaining. But we can always hope for the best.

Everyone has a defining moment in their life, a true epiphany if you will…well more of just a relization. I’m a huge nerd, and it hit me during Family Guy last night. It was the 2 part episode of Stewie Kills Lois. At the end of the first part it shows the standard sitcom tagline of To Be Continued. Only it was in the complete style of Star Trek: The Next Generation with the same music que. I was on the floor. And it hit me, but I’m ok with that.

Anyway, that’s it for today I suppose, gotta pace myself. See you guys tomorrow.
